In today’s society, Mercy is sadly equated with non-resistance to evil…

We see this in the various manifestations of the culture of death: euthanasia, abortion, a contraceptive mentality, the sexual “revolution” (more adequately termed as REBELLION), a push for no fault divorce and for same-sex “marriages”…

But this is not Mercy!

For Mercy is always perfectly united to and is in harmony with Righteousness!
We see this both in the Sacred Readings of the Pauline Rite/Ordinary Form and the Tridentine Rite/Extraordinary form of the Mass.

Here we see Divine Mercy Incarnate: JESUS CHRIST OF NAZARETH, not only extending a mere emotional, outward manifestation of “mercy” to the Canaanite woman and in giving the example of the tax collector in the Temple. In HIM we see MERCY IN ACTION, MERCY changing their lives FROM GLORY TO GLORY from the shackles of sin, death, hell and the grave, TO THE FULLNESS OF BEING FREE AS SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF OUR AWESOME FATHER and LIVING TEMPLES OF THE GREAT PARACLETE!

IN JESUS, MERCY transforms us from unrepentant sinners to HUMBLE AND RIGHTEOUS NEW CREATIONS OF HIS SALVATION!

If only we follow the challenge of the Canaanite woman and the Tax Collector, and stop being spoiled and rotten brats like the Pharisee, if only we would receive HIS DIVINE MERCY in the SACRAMENT OF CONFESSIONPENANCE AND RECONCILIATION, if only we humble ourselves and LET OUR AWESOME GOD REIGN, LETTING HIM LIVE AND MOVE IN US, HIM BEING THE FULLNESS OF OUR BEINGS, then we will ENJOY THE GLORY OF HIS KINGDOM EVEN WHEN WE ARE STILL HERE ON EARTH!

What are we waiting for?

Do we want a cheap, counterfeit version of “mercy” that leaves you and me stagnant to our sins and fleeting pleasures and caprices, or do we want TO HAVE JESUS CHRIST OF NAZARETH, ALONG WITH THE “INCONVENIENCE” OF HIS MOST WONDERFUL CROSS FOR US TO RECEIVE THE FULLNESS OF DIVINE MERCY THAT CHANGES US FROM GLORY TO GLORY UNTO HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS?

Oh, and just in case we are afraid of such an “inconvenience”, let us be reminded by the APOSTLE OF COMMON SENSE, GILBERT KEITH CHESTERTON:
